Yeassa-Wote is a fish dish. It can be cooked from a fish fillet or canned tuna. The following recipe is for tuna. However, the fish fillet is also cooked in a similar way.


12 oz tuna

1 cup chopped onions

Ĺ cup oil

1/8 cup beer (cooking wine or water)

1 tablespoon red hot pepper powder

1 tablespoon tomato paste

ľ teaspoon powdered cinnamon and cloves

1 cup warm water

a pinch of salt


Squeeze the oil out of the tuna (Bumblebee light is preferred).

Fry the onions in oil until they get reddish brown and add beer (cooking wine or water). Add the tomato paste and stir for about three minutes. Add the hot pepper powder and stir for about two minutes. Pour in the tuna and stir the mixture well. Add 1 cup warm water and cook for about ten minutes.

Season with cinnamon and/or cloves. Cut off the heat and add salt. It is ready to be served.
